The thyroid gland is a part of the hypothalamic pituitary thyroid axis and secretes the thyroxine, triiodothyronine and calcitonin hormone. Thyroid releasing hormone from the hypothalamus stimulates the thyroid stimulating hormone from the pituitary which stimulates thyroid hormone release.
