Concept introduction:

Cortisol is a stress hormone that aids the metabolism of fats, proteins, carbohydrates and increases the glucose levels in the blood providing additional energy to the muscles. Cortisol is helpful in the short term, as it restores homeostasis but it is harmful in the long term as it leads to health consequences.
