You are evaluating the performance of a large electromagnet.
The magnetic field of the electromagnet is zero at t = 0 and
increases as the current through the windings of the
electromagnet is increased. You determine the magnetic field
as a function of time by measuring the time dependence of the
current induced in a small coil that you insert between the
poles of the electromagnet, with the plane of the coil parallel to
the pole faces as for the loop in (Figure 1). The coil has 4
turns, a radius of 0.700 cm, and a resistance of 0.190.
You measure the current i in the coil as a function of time t.
Your results are shown in (Figure 2). Throughout your
measurements, the current induced in the coil remains in the
same direction.

A circular coil of radius r has N turns and a resis-
tance R. It is placed with its plane at right angles to
a uniform magnetic field B. Find the expression for
the amount of charge Q which passes through the
coil when it is rotated through an angle of 180° in
its plane.
a wood cylinder of mass m = 0.250 kg and length L = 0.100 m, with N = 10.0 turns of wire wrapped around it longitudinally, so that the plane of the wire coil contains the long central axis of the cylinder. The cylinder is released on a plane inclined at an angle u to the horizontal, with the plane of the coil parallel to the incline plane. If there is a vertical uniform magnetic field of magnitude 0.500 T, what is the least current i through the coil that keeps the cylinder from rolling down the plane?
