The types of stress testing used for testing intermittent ignition problems.

Answer to Problem 1RQ

There are three types of stress testing used for conducting testing the intermittent ignition component problems. They are cold testing, heat testing, and moisture testing.

Explanation of Solution

The stress testing is of three types:

  1. Cold testing
  2. Heat testing
  3. Moisture testing

Now, the following are the methods of stress testing:

Procedure to be followed in case of cold testing:

  1. In this kind of testing, first, the ignition components are cooled by using a liquid which is later used as a cooling agent.
  2. Then, the traces of any malfunction or problem in the pattern within the dwell zone is observed and checked.
  3. Then, this same procedure is being followed and repeated again for the other components in this test. By doing this, results are compared and bad ones are observed and pointed out.

Procedure to be followed in case of heat testing:

  1. In this testing, the ignition components are heated by using the heat gun which puts hot air in the components. Doing this process, the degree should be kept in that much value so that plastic and wire does not get damaged.
  2. Then, the traces of any malfunction or problems in the pattern within the dwell zone and the area of limited flow is observed and checked.
  3. In case of malfunction found, the terminals should be cleaned and coated.

Procedure to be followed in case of moisture testing:

  1. In this testing, the ignition components are being sprayed a little with water and the raster which is connected to the scope provides the pattern of the problem which is found in it.
  2. Although, in some cases, instead of using the scope, the problems can be identified by hearing the shutter.

Conclusion:

Thus, there are three kinds of stress testing.
