Explanation Glucose enters into the cell and begins a series of conversions for the production of energy by the glycolytic pathway. Glycolysis takes place in many steps. Phosphorylation: At first step, the glucose is phosphorylate into glucose 6-phosphate by the enzyme hexokinase. Phosphorylation of glucose is maintained as low and concentration gradient maintained as it favors the continuous flow of glucose into the cell. The phosphorylated glucose molecules do not diffuse into the cell membrane, which is then retained in the cell membrane to produce energy by oxidation. In most of the cells, glucose 6 phosphate is not converted to glucose back because of the absence of the enzymes. Glucose 6 phosphate is converted to amino acids and fats and then it is transformed into glycogen from the glucose molecules or converted into energy.
