Muscle contraction takes place due to the movement of actin and myosin filaments, which are categorized under striated muscle fibers. In this case, the plasma membrane is known as sarcolemma, and the cytoplasm, which is present in the muscles, is known as sarcoplasm. The basic unit of muscle contraction is known as sarcomere, which is formed by the multiple repeating units of actin and myosin filaments.
