Concept introduction: Substances have different properties due to their varying chemical nature. On the basis of chemical nature, substances are categorized as acidic, basic, or neutral. When an acid and base are mixed in the water, the hydrogen ion (H+) of an acid combines with the hydroxide ion (OH) of the base and forms a water molecule. The remaining part of the acid unites the remaining portion of the base and forms salt.
