Using a generic nucleophile, Nu:- as the initiator, the initiation and the first two propagation steps for anionic polymerization of propenal (acrolein) are to be drawn.

Concept introduction:

In anionic polymerization, the anion is formed by the reaction of alkene with the nucleophile. This takes place in the initiation step. The nucleophile adds so that the resulting negative charge appears on the C atom attached to the electron withdrawing group. Propagation occurs when nucleophilic carbon on the growing chain undergoes addition to another monomer.
