Introduction: Person J is a Belgian chemist conducted an experiment on willow tree to understand the source of plant mass. He collected dried soil weighing 200 pounds and put it in an earthen pot to plant a willow tree weighing 5 pounds. The tree was moistened regularly with water for a period of 5 years. After 5 years, he stopped the experiment, dried the soil to check its mass. Person J found that the weight of the dried soil decreased 2 pounds than the initial soil weight whereas the weight of the tree was increased from 5 pounds to164 pounds. He concluded that the 164 pounds weight of the willow tree was because of water.
