Figure 24.48 shows a small plant near a thin lens. The ray shown is one of the principal rays for the lens. Each square is 2.0 cm along the horizontal direction but the vertical direction is not to the same scale. Use information from the diagram to answer the following questions (a) Using only the ray shown decide what type of lens (converging or diverging) this is. (b) What is the focal length of the lens? (c) Locate the image by drawing the other two principal rays. (d) Calculate where the image should be and compare this result with the graphical solution in part (c).

- (a) The graph below was produced from the data of a thin lens. By analyzing it, what can we saysay about its characteristics, i.e., convergence/divergence and focal length? Explain your reasoning.(b) A thin lens is used to project an image onto a screen. If we cover the right half of the lens, what happens to the projected image? Calculate the image distance. Follow the sign convention. (Express yor answer to two significant figures). 2) Is the image real of virtual? 3) Calculate the image height hI. (Express yor answer to two significant figures). 4) Is the image upright or inverted? 5) Describe the image formed when a 10-cm tall object is positioned 50 cm from the mirror. Calculate the image distance dI. Follow the sign convention. (Express yor answer to two significant figures).arrow_forward
- A glass lens with index of refraction 1.80 is ground such that the front of the lens is convex with radius 1.0 m, and the back of the lens is concave with radius 2.2 m. a) What is the refractive power of the lens? b) What is the focal length of the lens? Identify the type of lens you have been provide with. Explain your answer Hence write down: two characteristics of the image formed the distance d of the image formed from the lens what is the significance of d? Justify your answerarrow_forwardYou have a source light that is 0.5 cm in size. You use a convex lens with a focal length of 4 cm for collimation. What focal length would you need to focus the source light onto a detector with a sensing area in 1 mm size? Answer in mm with the nearest whole number. The question continues from the above. What is the distance between the source and the adjacent lens in the system described above? Answer in mm. i got -8 for the first one but i got it wrongarrow_forward
- Question in the imagesarrow_forwardplease solve for the following problems to identify the characteristics of an image of object. 1. A lit candle is placed 20 cm in front of a concave mirror with a focal length of 15 cm. Where does the image form and its magnification? 2.arrow_forwardAnswer the question below. Use the rubric in the materials for help if needed. There are two types of lenses: concave and convex. You know that a concave lens bends away from the viewer, and a convex lens bends toward the viewer. Explain how the difference in the curve of the lens affects the light that travels through each type of lens. Use details to support your answer. i Font Family - AA A O E- E 用arrow_forward
- Please stoparrow_forwardA. If an 8 cm doll is standing away from a diverging lens and the focal length is 6 m, find the image distance, magnification, and image height from 4, 8, and 10 m away. B. Determine if the image is real or virtual, inverted or erect, smaller or larger. Use the formula below:arrow_forwardA lens has 2 focal points or foci as shown in the drawings below... A. A convex-convex lens is a converging lens. P rays that enter the lens from the left side will converge at and pass through the focal point on the right or far side. The focal point on the left or near side is not used. Sketch three P rays passing through the converging lens provided. Note: Instead of refracting the ray at each interface, assume the ray refracts only once, at the dashed central bisector of the lens B. A concave-concave lens is a diverging lens. P rays entering from the left will diverge away from the focal point on the left. The right side focal point is not used. Sketch 3 P rays passing through the diverging lens provided.arrow_forward
