a)

Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The advantages and disadvantages of temperature programming in gas chromatography has to be given.

Concept Introduction:

Time and Pressure programming in Gas chromatography:

Temperature programming is used to run a large fraction of all gas chromatography. In this the temperature of the column is increased during the separation to raise the vapour pressure of the analyte and reduce the retention time of late-eluting components.

For some cases, program temperature can be replaced with program pressure to decrease the retention times of late-eluting components. The pressure can be immediately reduced to its initial value for the run. Those analytes that cannot withstand high temperature can be run with the help of programmed pressure.

To explain the advantage and disadvantage of temperature programming in gas chromatography
