Yes, the addiction to drug is similar to that of the need for food. Actually this is the role of our brain which makes a relationship of similarity between the two. Anything that gives us pleasure is immediately recognized by the brain whether it be taking food or taking drugs and thus ultimately leads to addiction.

Addiction to drug is similar to that of the need for food. This can be explained with the help of the physiological dependence in which the drug becomes a need of the addicted to avoid the withdrawal symptom. This is similar to the fact that our body needs food on a regular basis to avoid the bad effects on our body due to not taking food. Psychological dependence also advocates about the similarity between the two. As an addicted has craving for the drug, so an individual has craving for the food.
