Introduction:

Fatty acid is one of the classes of lipids. It is a carboxylic acid with long hydrocarbon chains (R group) or tails. The hydrocarbon chain may be saturated or unsaturated. Fatty acids are generally derived from phospholipids or triglycerides. The catabolism of fatty acids yields a high amount of energy in the body. It can take place by β-oxidation or ketogenesis.
