The difference between reflexes and nervous system responses.
Introduction:
Reflexes are automatic responses to a stimulus. They are prewired in a circuit of neurons known as a reflex arc. It consists of a sensory neuron for receiving information from a sensory receptor, and a motor neuron for sending a message to the muscle that needs to respond.
The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord, sensory organs, and the nerves that interconnect, receive and interpret these messages, and decide how to respond. This involves the actions of specialized cells known as neurons. Neurons, or nerve cells, carry electrical and chemical messages between the brain and other sections of our body. These message-carrying

- Compare and contrast reflexes, voluntary movement, and rhythmic movements. What regions of the central nervous system promote each type of movement?arrow_forwarddifferences between local homeostatic response and reflex?arrow_forwardName one reflex of the body and briefly discuss it and give one example.arrow_forward
- Describe the Hering-Breuer reflex and its function.arrow_forwardUse logic to determine whether each of the following reflexes is a somatic reflex or an autonomic (visceral) reflex. Hint: think about what the effector is — is it a skeletal muscle, or is it a smooth / cardiac muscle or gland? -Patellar (knee-jerk) reflex -Pupillary light reflex (autonomic/somatic) -Effectors are skeletal muscles (autonomic/somatic) -Effectors are smooth muscles or glands (autonomic/somatic) -Regulation of blood pressure (autonomic/somatic) -Salivary reflex (autonomic/somatic)arrow_forwardWe know that a reflex arc is a circuit, but what are the nerve connections arc called?arrow_forward
