Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a gas released from the metabolic activities in the body which is expelled from the lungs. The pH is a measure of acidity or alkalinity in a solution. It is defined as the negative logarithm of hydrogen [H+] ion concentration. The normal pH range is 7.35-7.45. If the pH of the blood is less than 7.35, it is known as acidosis and if the pH is more than 7.45 is called alkalosis. Partial pressure is the pressure used by a specific gas in a mixture of gases. PCO2 is referred to as partial pressure of CO2 in the arterial blood. The PCO2 is an indicator for efficacy of ventilation by the lungs.
