Proteobacteria belongs to gram-negative bacteria. They have the most diverse metabolic activities. Members of this phylum are facultatively anaerobic, chemolithoautotrophic, heterotrophic, and phototrophic. There are five subgroups of proteobacteria namely alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon proteobacteria. Some of this group are economically important and they contribute more to the environment.
