Summary Introduction
Crude oil contains about 0.5% of sulfur by weight which is termed as “sour”. This acts as natural corrosion causing substance as it contains H2S. The seawater is also known to contain 30mM of sulfate which is the result of the unwanted insertion of seawater added to maintain reservoir pressure. This sulfate also causes souring by allowing the growth of sulfate-reducing bacteria.
