Interpretation:

The difference in the dipole moment of two similar molecules of N; NH3 and NF3 molecules needs to be explained.

Concept introduction:

VSEPR is the theory purposed to explain the geometry of those molecules mainly which have lone pairs on the central atom as due to presence of lone pair and bond pairs, the repulsion plays important role in the determination of molecular geometry of the molecule. According to VSEPR theory, the lone pair-bond pair repulsion determines the molecular geometry of the molecules and geometry determines the dipole moment of the molecule. Dipole moment is the product of charge and distance between bonded atoms. Electronegativity of bonded atoms determines the direction as well as magnitude of dipole moment.
