When anthracene is treated with Br2 in CCl4, why the addition of Br2 takes place is to be explained.

Concept introduction:

The π system of aromatic compound is relatively electron rich, in contrast, an electrophile is relatively electron poor, hence aromatic compound may undergo electrophilic addition reaction. But when benzene is treated with Cl2 or HCl, no reaction occurs. Electrophilic addition reactions that permanently destroy benzene’s aromaticity are heavily disfavored. The electrophilic addition reaction in that does not destroy the aromaticity of an aromatic compound are favored.
