Chapter 22, Problem 1MC
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Skin is the outermost covering and the largest organ of the body. It acts as a mechanical barrier andprovides protection against heat, light, infection, and injury. It is mainly made up of two layers; outermost layerepidermis and the inner layer known as dermis. The ecology of the skin is dynamic and is regulated according to the variation in conditions like temperature, salt concentration, lipids, and pH (potentialhydrogen). When any alteration occurs in the environment, it provides signals to the central nervous system by the multiple sensory receptors present on them.
