Ohm’s Law: says that when electric current is flowing across a resistor, the current i, measured in amperes, can be calculated from the voltage v, measured in volts, and the resistance R, measured in ohms. The relationship is given by
a. A resistor in a radio circuit is rated at 4000 ohms.
i. Find a formula for the current as a function of the voltage.
ii. Plot the graph of i versus v. include values of the voltage up to 12 volts.
iii. What happens to the current when the voltage increases?
b. The lights on your car operate on a 12-volt battery.
i. Find a formula for the current in your car lights as a function of the resistance.
ii. Plot the graph of i versus R. We suggest a horizontal span here of 1 to 25.
iii. What happens to the current when the resistance increases?

- The resistance of a copper wire carrying an electrical current is directly proportional to its length and inversely proportional to its cross-sectional area. A copper wire with a diameter of 0.0126inch has a resistance of 64.9ohms per thousand feet. What length of 0.0201-inch-diameter copper wire will produce a resistance of 33.5ohms?arrow_forwardFind the intensity of light at a depth of 12 meter if I0=14 and k=0.7. Round to two decimals.arrow_forwardThe force needed to break a board varies inversely with its length. Richard uses 24 pounds of pressure to break a 2-foot long board. a. Write the equation of variation. b. How many pounds of pressure is needed to break a 5-foot long board?arrow_forward
- A driver of a car stopped at a gas station to fill up his gas tank. He looked at his watch, and the time read exactly 3:40 p.m. At this time, he started pumping gas into the tank. At exactly 3:44, the tank was full and he noticed that he had pumped 10.7 gallons. What is the average rate of flow of the gasoline into the gas tank?arrow_forwardThe "average speed" of a trip by car describes: O the speed on the odometer at a given moment. a speed that remains the same throughout the whole trip. the distance traveled divided by how long it took. O how long the trip usually takes. the speed at which most people drive for the trip.arrow_forward
