The nitrogenous bases are the building blocks of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA). They are classified as purines and pyrimidines. The nitrogenous bases are adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), thymine (T) and uracil (U) out of which only adenine guanine cytosine and uracil are found in RNA.
