To write:
The mechanism of the production of the human gametes.
Introduction:
Human reproduces by sexual means, which includes combining of haploid gamete cells consisting half of the genetic makeup from each parent to produce a diploid zygote.
Explanation of Solution
The haploid cells derived from each parent, which unite to produce the diploid zygote, are known as gametes. The kind of cell division, which forms gametes are named meiosis. It includes two distinct stage of cell division that develops four daughter cells, which are haploid. Each parent cell contains 46 chromosomes and during the formation of gametes, parent cell divided by meiosis to produce haploid gamete cell, containing 23 pairs of chromosomes.
In humans, the gametes produced by the male parents are known as spermatozoa or sperm cells. The process by which sperm cells are developed is known as production of sperm cells, which is known as spermatogenesis within the testis.
The female gametes are referred as oocytes or ova or eggs, produced by the process of oogenesis and it occurs within ovaries. So, human egg and sperm cells have 23 chromosomes. The process by which haploid male and female gametes fuse to form a zygote is known as fertilization. The zygote is diploid and consists of two sets of chromosomes or 46 chromosomes.
In humans, during the sexual reproduction, haploid gametes are developed by the meiosis process of cell division. The male gamete is known as sperm, and female gamete is regarded as an egg. Both the gametes contain 23 number of chromosomes.
