A group of signaling molecules is called interferon. Host cell protects themselves from a pathogenic microorganism or foreign invaders by secreting certain chemicals. Interferon belongs to a protein called cytokines. It is used to communicate between the cells, to induce an immune response against the foreign invaders. There are more than twenty interferons are identified so far.
