Chapter 21, Problem 20CP
Summary Introduction
To review:
Measurement of systolic and diastolic blood pressure with a sphygmomanometer.
Introduction:
The process of blood circulation, wherein the blood that is oxygenated is carried away from the heart to different body parts and deoxygenated blood is returned from the body back to the heart, is called systematic circulation. The blood pressure is the pressure that is generated in the arteries when blood flows from the left ventricle to different parts of the body. The maximum pressure, which is created when the heart contracts is known as systolic pressure and the minimum pressure that is created during relaxation of the heart is called diastolic pressure. This pressure can be measured by sphygmomanometer.
