Summary Introduction

To review:

The chemoreceptor's role in regulating the blood pressure (BP).

Introduction:

The nervous system facilitates the regulation of the BP in the body via the negative feedback mechanism that includes two major reflexes, namely, chemoreceptor and baroreceptor reflexes. Chemoreceptors are classified as the sensory receptors, which are responsible for monitoring the chemical composition of the blood.

It also provides the input to the brain stem's center for adjusting the rate of breathing. They are found in close proximity of the baroreceptors belonging to the carotid sinus and aortic arch in small structures referred as the carotid and the aortic bodies, respectively.
