Concept introduction:

Phylum represents a taxonomic level for the classification of biological organisms. Animal phylum is used to classify different animals based on their characteristic feature. The nine major animal phyla are organized from the least evolved Porifera to the advanced Chordata. The animal phyla is organized based on shared features of the appearance of animals, physiology, embryonic development, reproduction, body symmetry, digestive tract, nerve organization and body cavity.
