follow.
The 15 volts of potential energy supplied by
the battery will divide among the 3
lightbulbs. However, will it divide evenly?
Question: Do you think the 15 volts of
potential energy (per Coulomb) supplied by
the battery will divide evenly at a 5 volt drop
at each of the lightbulbs? Why or Why not?
Let's solve the problem mathematically
before we close the switch and measure the
current and voltage at each resistor.
The strategy to solving these problems is to
combine all the resistors into 1 total resistor
using the equation above. Then use Ohm's
law to determine a current, then analyze
each resistor with the now known current to
determine the voltage drop at each individual
lightbulb (resistor).
