Summary Introduction

To explain: The meaning of the terms chondroma, neuroma, and adenocarcinoma.

Concept introduction: Tumor is an abnormal tissue mass that may be solid or fluid-filled lumps. There are two categories of tumor- benign and malignant tumor. Benign tumor does not invade other nearby parts and tissues in the body. The suffix –oma is used to name tumors based on the tissue where tumor occurs. Malignant tumors refer to cancerous tumors where abnormal cells divide rapidly and metastasize to new areas. The general combining forms for cancer include carcin/o that means cancer and sarc/o that means malignant tumor of connective tissue.
