If the cost of gasoline is $2.50 per gallon, how far out of your way (one way) could you afford to drive (in miles) to a service station that has gasoline at $2.25 per gallon if your vehicle gets 30 miles per gallon and you will fill up with 20 gallons of fuel? Consider only the cost of gasoline in vehicle driving cost. (Hint: Since you are going out of your way, you have to drive back the same distance.)

If he delegates the task to his secretary t will require him 30 minutes to explain the work and another 45 minutes to check the finished work. Due to the unfamiliarity of the secretary to do the Task it takes her an additional time of 6 hours after being instructed. Heating and cooling bills will be about 50% less than in a similar wood-frame home in Vermont. An ICF home will be approximately 10% more expensive to construct than a wood-frame home. A typical 2,000 square-foot home costs $120 per square foot to build with wood framing in Vermont and costs $200 per month (on average) to heat or cool. What is the IRR on the incremental investment in an equivalent-sized ICF home? - Pure gasoline has an energy density of 115,600 BTU per gallon while ethanol has an energy density of 75,670 BTU per gallon. If gasoline costs $3.50 per gallon, (a) what would the cost of pure ethanol have to be in order for the energy costs of the two fuels to break even? (b) What would the price of E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline) have to be for its energy cost to be the same as that of pure gasoline?arrow_forwardOregon Ducks, Inc. is considering buying licenses for 12 megahertz of wireless spectrum in the 700 MHz range, which is suitable for delivering television to mobile phones. The 700 MHz signals can travel long distances and more easily penetrate walls and other obstacles. The acquisition cost is $300 million. In addition, because networks that operate in the 700 MHz range are less expensive to build than those in other portions of the spectrum, Ducks estimates annual costs of $24 million over the next 9 years and no salvage value. During the same period, the company expects to generate annual revenue of $40 million by offering television and video to mobile-phone users. A computational method developed at Carnegie Mellon maps in 3-D the microstructure of aircraft materials in their present state so that engineers can test them under different conditions of moisture, salt, dirt, etc. Military officials can then determine if an aircraft is fine, is in need of overhaul, or should be retired. If the 3-D system allows the Navy to use one airplane 2 years longer than it normally would have been used, thereby delaying the purchase of a $20 million aircraft for 2 years, what is the present worth of the assessment system at an interest rate of 8% per year?arrow_forwardYou purchased a bond with a face value of $5,000 five years ago for $4,750.
