Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The chemical formulas for the elements that normally exist in nature as diatomic molecules are to be determined.
Concept Information:
The substances that are unable to be degraded into simpler substances are known as an element.
The molecules which contain single atoms are called monatomic molecules and those contain two different atoms are called diatomic molecules.
The element symbols and the subscripts in an ionic compound are represented with the help of a chemical formula.
While writing the chemical formula for an ionic compound, the symbol of the metal is written first which is then followed by the symbol of the non-metal.
Electrical neutrality is maintained in all the chemical compounds. Due to this, the ions that are present in an ionic compound have a fixed ration in such a way that the positive charge is equal to the negative charge.

- Classify the statements pertaining to elements and compounds as either true or false. True False Compounds must contain at least [wo elements. Compounds are pure substances whereas elements are mixtures Compounds cannot be broken down further by processes such as filtration. - Write the symbols and charges of the monatomic ions formed by calcium AND phosphorus, and write the formula of the compound these ions would make together.arrow_forwardings ools Molecular compounds are usually composed solely of nonmetals. A binary molecular compound is one in which the compound contains only two elements (regardless of how many atoms are present of each). When naming binary molecular compounds, prefixes are used to specify the number of atoms of each element. Take a moment to review some of the prefixes shown here. Prefix Number mono di nona one three tetra four penta five hexa six hepta seven octa eight nine deca two ten For example, SF6 is named sulfur hexafluoride. Note that the prefix mono is not used in naming the first element. Also note that the second element in the name should end with the suffix ide. ▼ Part A Using the rules for naming molecular compounds described in the introduction, what is the name for the compound PC15?
