Interpretation:

It is to be explained how the molecules with the general formula CX2Y2 (where X and Y are either a hydrogen or a halogen atom) are always polar, support the tetrahedral geometry and rule out the square planar geometry.

Concept introduction:

The dipole moment of a molecule is a measure of the magnitude of its dipole. A dipole moment is a vector, which has both magnitude and direction. Bond polarity originates from bonds between atoms of different electronegativity. The symmetry of molecules also predicts the polarity of the molecule.

The net dipole moment is shown by adding the vectors of the individual bond dipoles together. The tetrahedral molecules containing polar bonds may or may not be polar depending on their structure. In square planar geometry for the general formula CX2Y2 (where X and Y are either a hydrogen or a halogen atom), there are two isomers possible: cis and trans. In cis isomer, the two halogen atoms would lie on the same side while in trans isomer, the two halogen atoms would lie on the opposite sides.

we were assigned to dilute 900ppm in to 18ppm by using only 250ml vol flask. firstly we did calc and convert 900ppm to 0.9 ppm to dilute in 1 liter. to begin the experiment we took 0,225g of kmno4 and dissolved in to 250 vol flask. then further we took 10 ml sample sol and dissolved in to 100 ml vol flask and put it in to a spectrometer and got value of 0.145A . upon further calc we got v2 as 50ml . need to find DF, % error (expval and accptVal), molarity, molality. please write the whole report. thank you The format, tables, introduction, procedure and observation, result, calculations, discussion and conclusion
