The origin and purpose of Medicare. Introduction: Medicare is a health care program conducted by the federal government of the country. This program focuses primarily onproviding health benefits to individualswho are equal and above the age of 65. Medicare was formed by the congress in the year 1965. The aim of the program is to provide medical health to old aged people. Of the total fundsallocated by the government towards health care, 17 percent is spent towards Medicare. Medicare covers the below categories: Covers some part of hospital facilities andskilled nursing facilities The second category covers ambulatory surgical care, services of physician, and outpatient services Next is the coverage of managed care offered by private insurance companies The final coverage is towards the prescription of drugs given by the physician Medicare is administered by an agency that has eight regional offices to take care of the program. As a part of the administration, new rules and regulations are framed so that the benefits of the program reach the people who are in need of it.The health care providers are paid with the help of Medicare elected contractors. Hence, Medicare helps elderly patients with their health care coverage plans.
