Professional organization that designed ALGOL 60:
ALGOL 60 was the result for the need for a universal language for scientific applications The two professional organizations which together designed ALGOL 60 were:
- Association for Computing Machinery (ACM); and,
- GAMM (a German acronym for Society for Applied Mathematics and
Mechanics ).
In 1954, Laning and Zierler algebraic system became operational and in 1957 FORTRAN became reality.
- Also some other languages like IT, MATH-MATIC and UNICODE also came into being.
- But these languages were growing upon single system architectures and this made communication among programmers difficult.
