A retired couple supplement their income by making fruit pies, which they sell to a local grocery store. During the month of September, they produce apple and grape pies. The apple pies are sold for $1.50 to the grocer, and the grape pies are sold for $1.20. The couple is able to sell all of the pies they produce owing to their high quality. They use fresh ingredients. Flour and sugar are purchased once each month. For the month of September, they have 1,200 cups of sugar and 2,100 cups of flour. Each apple pie requires 1 ½ cups of sugar and 3 cups of flour, and each grape pie requires 2 cups of sugar and 3 cups of flour.
a. Determine the number of grape and the number of apple pies that will maximize revenues if the couple working together can make an apple pie in six minutes and a grape pie in three minutes. They plan to work no more than 60 hours.
b. Determine the amounts of sugar, flour, and time that will be unused.

- Tom is a habitual shopper at garage sales. Last Saturday he stopped at one where there were several types of used building materials for sale. At the low prices being asked, Tom knew that he could resell the items in another town for a substantial gain. Four things stood in his way: he could only make one round trip to resell the goods; his pickup truck bed would hold only 1200 pounds; the pickup truck bed could hold at most 80 cubic feet of merchandise; and he had only $190 cash with him. He wants to load his truck with the mix of materials that will yield the greatest profit when he resells them. To add to this odd selling strategy, QBlitz does not post prices for itsproducts. Instead, for each product there is a reserve price. On the day a product is available, customers can submit bids. All of the bids that exceed the reserve price are told atthe end of the day that they “won” the product and they pay the price they bid.
