Chapter 19, Problem 16P
Summary Introduction

To explain: The reason behind the non-competence of pyruvate dehydrogenase and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase.

Introduction:

Pyruvate dehydrogenase is the enzyme which converts pyruvate to acetyl-CoA (acetyl coenzyme A) which then enters into TCA (tricarboxylic acid cycle). This enzyme is a complex of three enzymes, namely- pyruvate dehydrogenase, dihydrolipoamide acyltransferase, and dihydrolipoyl dehydrogenase.

Glyceraldehyde 3- phosphate dehydrogenase catalyzes conversion of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate to 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate . Both pyruvate dehydrogenase and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase reduce NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide). However, they never compete for NAD pool.
