Platelets, which are also called as thrombocytes are the membrane-bound cell fragments. They do not have a nucleus and are not considered as true cells. The main function of platelets is maintaining the hemostasis. It is a process by which bleeding was stopped by clotting of blood at the time of injury or cut.
