Introduction:

Hemopoiesis is the process by which blood is produced, more importantly the production of the formed elements of blood. The formed elements include erythrocytes, platelets, and leukocytes. The hemopoietic process contributes partly to the maintenance of a constant internal environment, which is termed homeostasis. As blood cells age and eventually die, new blood cells need to be replenished, and this happens as a continuous process. Hemopoiesis occurs at different locations, which are known as hemopoietic tissues, and these locations differ during different developmental stages.
