Introduction:

The interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) are responsible for producing slow waves within the intestine. These waves are propagated by the network of ICC, which are electrically joined to each other in the intestinal wall. The smooth muscles generate action potential and produce contraction in response to depolarization.
