Introduction:
Staphylococcus aureus surface protein A is a 42 Da (Dalton) protein, which is composed of 2271 amino acids and belongs to serine-rich repeat proteins family. Protein A is encoded by the spa gene. It is used in research because of its ability to bind with the immunoglobulin. It is composed of five immunoglobulin domain that folds into a three-helix bundle. It binds to the heavy chain that is present in the Fc (fragment crystallizable) region of most of the most immunoglobulins.
