Introduction :
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a condition, which is similar to dementia, but it progresses more rapidly. The main cause of the disease is the accumulation of the prions in the nervous system.

Answer to Problem 26A
Correct answer :
Option (C).
Explanation of Solution
Explanation/justification for the correct answer :
Option (C). The CJD is caused by the prions, which result in the formation of the spongiform brain. Spongiform characters can be identified by examining the brain tissues for the spaces. So, if the doctor finds out a lot of empty space between the tissue, it can be concluded that the person had CJD. Hence, the correct answer is option (C).
Explanation for incorrect answer :
Option (A). The CJD is a disease caused by the prions. The viral count is helpful in identification of the viral disease. Hence, it is an incorrect answer.
Option (B). Consumption of meat may lead to CJD as it might be transferred from cattle, but it would not provide a confirmation of the disease. Hence, it is an incorrect answer.
Option (D). The bacterial neurotoxins are found in the bacterial infection, and this condition is not caused by the bacterial infection. Hence, it is an incorrect answer.
