Answer to Problem 17A
The lysogenic and lytic cycle are type of viral replication.
Explanation of Solution
There are two cycles through which viruses replicate. The lysogenic cycle and lytic cycle are the two types of viral replication. The lytic cycle uses the host’s machinery and make more viruses inside the cell, when the number of viruses is sufficient, they burst out of the cells. In the lysogenic cycle, incorporation of the viral genome into the genome of host occurs that infects the cell from within.

She recently returned from a trip to sub-Saharan Africa, where she did not take malaria prophylaxis. On examination, she is febrile (39.8°C/103.6°F) and hypotensive. Laboratory studies reveal hemoglobin of 8.0 g/dL, platelet count of 50,000/μL, and evidence of hemoglobinuria. A peripheral blood smear shows ring forms and banana-shaped gametocytes.
