Chapter 18, Problem 25Q
Summary Introduction

To explain: The differences between cells that died by necrosis and those that died by apoptosis in the electron micrograph.

Introduction: Programmed cell death is known as apoptosis.  The trophic factors help to keep the cells alive. The cells induce a suicide program called as intrinsic pathway of apoptosis in the absence of trophic factors. During development, death signals bind to the death receptor and induce cell death called as extrinsic apoptotic pathway. During apoptosis, the cells form apoptosomes are engulfed by the macrophages. Cell necrosis occurs in bacterial or viral infected cells. Cells that undergo necrosis swell and burst, thus releasing all their intracellular contents which in turn damage the neighboring cells and cause inflammation.

Summary Introduction

To explain: The way the images can be used to confirm the differences between the two processes.
