Explanation of Solution
The atom is subdivided into different parts like positive part protons, neutral part neutrons, and negative part electrons. The electrons are placed in shells outside the nucleus. The electrons are designated according to the energy level and the last outer shell is called the valence shell of an atom. Thus, valence electrons are those electrons which are present in the valence shell.
The number of unpaired valence electrons in the valence shell undergoes electron interaction to form a covalent bond. Thus, the numbers of unpaired valence electrons are responsible for bonding in an atom.
