Concept Introduction:
In the n-type doping, pentavalent impurity atoms are added to the pure semiconductor. This impurity atom gives extra electrons and known as donor atoms. The free electrons carry charge and n-type semiconductor is formed.
In the p-type doping, trivalent impurity is added to pure semiconductor. The impurity atoms results in the formation of valences or create holes which act as charge carriers. These impurities are known as acceptor atoms.
