The type of chemical reaction involved in the digestion of starch is to be stated.

Concept introduction:

Starch is known as a polysaccharide. It consists of a large number of glucose molecules that are bonded together. During the process of digestion, the hydrolysis reactions are catalyzed by enzymes and the bonds are broken down. In case of animals, the starch molecules are broken down in the body to the smaller glucose molecules. The enzyme amylase that is present in our mouth in the form of saliva helps in the digestion of starch.
