To explain: The way by which an obstruction can lead to bacterial peritonitis.
Concept introduction: The inner lining of the abdomen involved in the covering and supporting the abdominal organs are known as peritoneum. The inflammation of the peritoneum caused by chemical irritation or bacterial invasion is known as peritonitis. An impairment in the normal intestinal function due to a block in the food and liquid from passing through the small or large intestine is called the intestinal or bowel obstruction. The formation of scar tissue, twisting of bowel, inflammation, and tumor are the major causes of the bowel instruction. If untreated, it could lead to peritonitis.
