Summary Introduction

To state: The rationale for the common manifestations of cirrhosis including excessive bleeding, ascites, jaundice, and weight loss.

Concept introduction: Cirrhosis is an irreversible inflammatory and fibrotic liver disease that causes liver dysfunctioning due to long-term liver damage. It is commonly caused by high alcohol abuse, hepatitis infection, or due to nonalcoholic liver diseases. Also, less common causes of cirrhosis include certain medications, primary biliary cholangitis, hemochromatosis, and due to the formation of gallstones.
