(a)
Interpretation:
Shift of equilibrium with increase in dichromate ion in below reaction has to be determined.
Concept Introduction:
Le Chatelier’s principle states that changes at equilibrium in system respond to reduce the changes and bring back the system to restore its equilibrium under new conditions. According to this principle with increase in concentration of reactants the reaction moves towards forward direction thus this increases the concentration of products. Whereas with increase in concentration of product reaction shifts towards reverse direction. This increases the concentration of reactants.
(b)
Interpretation:
Shift of equilibrium with addition of

A certain acidic vitamin is essential for all mammals since it plays a role in DNA repair and cell signaling. A 0.439M solution of this acid is found to have a pH of 2.607. Based on the table below, what most likely is the identity of thisunknown acid?arrow_forward1) Write the equilibrium constant expression for the dissociation of acetic acid 2) Vinegar sold commercially is typically 0.8−1.0 M acetic acid. A 1.00 M solution of acetic acid is measured by its pH to have an equilibrium concentration of 4.19×10−3 M for both acetate ions and hydronium ions at room temperature. Assuming [HOAc]0 = 1.00 M, what is the equilibrium concentration of undissociated acetic acid [HOAc]eq to the correct number of significant figures? 3) What is the value of the equilibrium constant Keq for the dissociation according to the concentrations from number 2?arrow_forwardThe following five beakers represent solutions of 5 different acids, at the same initial concentrations, at equilibrium. The gray circles represent relative concentrations of H3O+ in solution. Water molecules and anions (from the acid) have been omitted for clarity. Which beaker represents acid HY? The Acids represented are: HX, Ka= 1.0 x 10^-2 HY, Ka= 5.0 x 10^-8 HZ, Ka= 2.0 x 10^-6 HL, ka= 4.0 x 10^-9 HD, ka= 3.0 x 10^-4 (refer to the attached image) (all the circles in the image are gray) darrow_forward
- A student determines that an aqueous solution that contains 9.32×10-2 M sodium cyanide and 0.163 M hydrocyanic acid, also has a H3O+ concentration of 8.05×10-10 M. Based on these data, calculate the value of the equilibrium constant K for the equilibrium:(1) as is usually done, without the inclusion of water in the expression for K: K =(2) for comparison, with the inclusion of water in the expression for K: K =arrow_forwardThe value of K, for acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), HC,H,O4, is 3.00×10-4 Write the equation for the reaction that goes with this equilibrium constant. (Use H3O+ instead of H*.) + +arrow_forwardWhat are the concentrations of each species in the reaction when you reach equilibrium of a 0.15 M solution of HCN? HCN(aq)⇌H+(aq)+CN-(aq) Kc = 4.9×10−10arrow_forward
- Hypothetically, if you were assigned lead(II) hydroxide as your unknown, calculate the expected concentration of hydroxide (in mM) at equilibrium Pb(OH)2 1.2 ×× 10−15arrow_forwardA solution of hydrocyanic acid is prepared by dissolving 0.10 mol HCN in enough water to make 1.0 L of solution. If 0.0050 mol of NaCN is added to the solution with no increase in volume, what is the concentration of H+ when equilibrium is re-established? Use concentrations to get equilibrium constant. CN ions added and used Na+ as a spectator ion.arrow_forwardWe have seen an introductory definition of an acid: An acid is a compound that reacts with water and increases the amount of hydronium ion present. In the chapter on acids and bases, we saw two more definitions of acids: acompound that donates a proton (a hydrogen ion, H+) to another compound is called a Brønsted-Lowry acid, and a Lewis acid is any species that can accept a pair of electrons. Explain why the introductory definition is amacroscopic definition, while the Brønsted-Lowry definition and the Lewis definition are microscopic definitions.arrow_forward
