The blood is a type of connective tissue which is liquid. It is composed of plasma, white blood cells, platelets, and red blood cells. The main function of the blood is to transport oxygen and nutrients to the lungs and the tissues. The liquid portion of the blood is called plasma. Plasma is a yellow colored component of the blood which holds the other element (RBCs, WBCs) in suspension. 55% of the total blood volume is composed of plasma. The plasma is composed of proteins, glucose, hormones, and water (90%).
